Citrix Workspace App crashing with error – Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E

If you are experiencing Citrix Workspace app crashing issues, there are several things you can try to resolve the problem.

In my case the error message was

System.IO.FileNotFoundException: The specific module could not be found.
(Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E)
at System.Windows.Forms.UnsafeNativeMethods.CoCreateInstance(Guid&clsid, Object punkOuter, Int32 context, Guid& iid)

Resolution

  • Remove and reinstall Citrix Workspace app from the client PC.
  • Delete ALL references to “Citrix” from under HKCU\Sofware\Classes once the Citrix Workspace App has been uninstalled.
  • In most cases just uninstall and reinstall would fix it. if it doesn’t, try deleting “citrix” from the HKCU hive. If none of the above resolve the issue, check if somebody else could launch a session under a different login on the same PC
    If others can login just fine, it is most likely a local profile issue. You can either choose to delete the local profile with or without the Citrix Workspace App client installed. Ensure that the .bak file has been removed from the registry in case your profile deletion didn’t go according to plan. Retry and should work
